For some, this time of year is about leaf peeping and pumpkin spice, for others, it’s about seeing just how brave you are. If you relate better the latter, this blog is for you! We’re lucky that the Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington, VT; Potsdam, Lake Placid and Malone, NY areas are some of the oldest in the country. That means there’s plenty of spooky spots to visit in the spirit of Halloween. Check out some of our favorites below, and see them all here.

Seneca Falls Historical Society Museum– Seneca Falls, NY

After reports of sightings and paranormal activity, the Paranormal Investigators of Central New York visited in 2011. The sounds of two women having a conversation was recorded. They eventually returned and asked the women to move a ball on the table which then rolled into one of the investigator’s laps.

Fort Ontario State Historic Site– Oswego, NY

This site was featured on “Ghost Hunters” due to strange phenomena like odd lights and music, a child calling his cat, and a woman in an upstairs window. Now the “Guardian of the Northern Frontier” is a great place to visit this time of year.

Durand-Eastman Park– Rochester, NY

It’s said that the “White Lady” haunts this park. She is the ghost of a woman that lived in the 3 Lakes Pavilion that lost her daughter. To this day she continues searching for her while dressed in all white. This story may seem familiar since it was turned into the 1988 movie, “Lady in White”.

Is there anywhere better than the Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington, VT; Potsdam, Lake Placid or Malone, NY areas to celebrate fall? We don’t think so! There’s so much to do, you could stay busy the entire season. Even better is that you don’t have to drop a ton of cash to have a good time. See what we mean below.

Go Apple Picking

There are so many local orchards that allow you to pick your own apples, and there really aren’t any better apples to bake with than fresh ones! Take a scenic drive, get some cider donuts and climb a tree to get the best ones at the top!

Take a Family Hike

We’re lucky to have so many mountains and trails in our area, most of which are free. They range from beginner to expert so your family can be comfortable the entire way no matter their age. If you’re really a pro, pack a lunch to have a picnic at the summit!

Go Camping

While the nights are getting cooler, the days are still pretty warm, ideal for a long camping weekend! Depending on what you’re looking for, Kampgrounds Of America can help you out.

Caleb is back, and this time with friends, to talk about the safety features of the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. This time, they’re focusing on the Rear-Cross Traffic Alert system. Now, this safety system won’t just keep you safe from other vehicles, it’ll keep you safe from clowns, and even clowns riding horses. Learn more from the kids in the video below.

According to the National Weather Service, after the autumnal equinox, we lose 1-2 minutes of sunlight daily. Meaning that most of us will be commuting to and from work in the dark, increasing the risk of drowsy driving. Now we know this sounds insignificant, but the truth is, driving drowsy is just as hazardous as driving under the influence of alcohol. For example, symptoms of drowsy driving are slow reaction times, impaired judgment, increased risk of crashing, and decreased awareness. However, it is almost impossible for investigators to confirm, without a doubt, that drowsiness was the reason for an accident. If a driver is intoxicated, officers can rely on blood, breath, and physical tests. As for drowsiness, they have only the lack of skid marks, the involvement of only one vehicle and only one person in the vehicle to draw their conclusions from. Injuries from drowsy driving accidents are often serious and can be fatal at times. To avoid this happening to you, keep a lookout for the following symptoms. If any should occur, we suggest finding alternate transportation home.

  • Difficulty focusing and frequent blinking
  • Trouble remembering the last few miles you drove
  • Trouble keeping your head up
  • Drifting, tailgating and hitting the rumble strips on the shoulder
  • Daydreaming or a wandering mind
  • Yawning repeatedly
