Test Drive Tips

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of test driving a new vehicle. The problem occurs when you let that excitement overtake you. When that happens things that can affect your daily driving experience get missed. Below we have some advice on how to get the most out of your next test drive at DELLA Mitsubishi.

  1. Bring Your Daily Amenities– If you travel with your charger(s), a favorite coffee mug and a stroller, you’ll want to know you can fit it all in your new vehicle before you sign on the dotted line. Bring these things with you and see if the interior space works for your needs.
  2. Get Comfortable– Test out everything. Get the seat and mirrors adjusted perfectly, see how easy it is to sync your phone to Bluetooth, and if it has it, is the navigation easy to navigate? These are all things you want to test out before you get moving.
  3. Get a Feel For Different Roads & Times– Take your test drive to the highway, your daily roads, and parking lots to see how easy it is to maneuver. Is it too loud at fast speeds? Is it hard to get in and out of? And how’s the vision at night? It’s up to you to decide if these are things you can live with or not.

And of course, speak to your DELLA Mitsubishi sales person. Our staff is knowledgeable about all of our vehicles, so we’ll be able to get you into a vehicle that works for you, not one that makes you work.

shutterstock_151083941While it may be the highlight of most young adult’s lives, most parents aren’t thrilled about picturing their teenager behind the wheel of a vehicle. Seeing as it’s something that most of us will have to come to terms with at some point or another, we thought it best to supply a little advice. It’s up to you to take it or leave it, but remember, your kids learn from you, and your job doesn’t stop after they get their license.

The first helpful tidbit is to have a professional teach the driving lessons. It’s no secret that teens and parents butt heads and this friction can reach critical levels pretty quick during a driving lesson. It’s best to let someone that they’re not comfortable arguing with take the wheel (pun intended), they will retain more information and it will be safer for everyone.

Second, while time behind the wheel is important, that doesn’t mean that’s where all their time should be spent. A good idea is to decide when, how often, for what purpose, and which destinations are appropriate for them to be driving, especially if it’s the family car. New drivers don’t need to be out at all hours of the night, and in some cases, they can’t be by law.

Lastly, and probably most importantly, create strict rules and follow them when it comes to distracted driving. It’s becoming more of an issue, as we all know, with cell phones. And while we think that new safe driving technology is wonderful, you don’t see every 16-year-old driving a brand-new vehicle. That’s why we suggest creating rules that have repercussions such as loss of phone, car privileges, or even the internet at home. The key to this is to stick to your rules as being flakey on this can cause your teen to not take the matter seriously.

If you really want to make sure your new driver is traveling in a safe vehicle, stop by DELLA Mitsubishi. We have new vehicles with cutting edge safety technologies and only the best pre-owned vehicles.

For a lot of people, driving provides a special kind of freedom they can’t get anywhere else. A sort of therapy or catharsis they crave in the midst of their hectic daily lives. For others though, their commute, or driving as a whole, is the cause of immense stress, and at times, anger. If you identify with the later, these ways to create a mindful commute from meditation expert Gabby Bernstein, could turn things around!

When you’re running late– No one likes being late, but getting angry, and speaking down to yourself won’t get you there any faster. Bernstein suggests to show a little self-compassion and understand that some things are out of your control. Using this tactic, even if you arrive a little late, you’ll get where you’re going in high spirits, ready to rock the day.

If you’re stuck in traffic– Seeing a long line of tail lights will increase just about anyones blood pressure. So the next time your daily commute involves bumper to bumper traffic, try employing some centering breather exercises. This will relax your nervous system and reset your brain to help you stay calm.

On your daily commute– You’re not alone if the thought of your daily commute is a starting point for stress. Instead of using this time to make an immense to-do list, envision yourself getting your entire to-do list done. Picture yourself nailing that presentation, getting that stack of work done and done right, then punching out and heading home on time! Using visualization techniques like this can be a powerful motivator.

Of course, all of these situations would immediately become less stressful in a new Mitsubishi. So if you’d like to start enjoying driving again, stop by DELLA Mitsubishi, we have just what you need.

We’ve all gotten stuck behind, or even worse, in, a terrible smelling vehicle. There are a number of reasons why your vehicle might be considered the stinky one. Sometimes it’s as small as food rolling under your seat a week ago, but it could be as big as a fluid leak that needs attention. Check out these possible smell creators and see if you can work to get that new car smell back!

  1. Your brakes or clutch needs to be looked at. – If you’re smelling something harsh, acrid, or burning, it could be your clutch or brakes. The reason for it could be riding your brakes, leaving the emergency brake on, a stuck caliper, or frozen parking brake.
  2. There is a leak in your heater core. – If this is the issue, you’re going to smell something sweet. While this might be more pleasant than the previous issue, it’s still not good. If you’re smelling something as sweet as candy, and you know you haven’t lost any in your vents recently, you’re probably smelling antifreeze. You’ll smell it on the inside of your car and you may also notice a filmy fog on the windshield when the heat is on.
  3. Water is getting where it shouldn’t. – We all know that damp musty smell of things left in the washer too long. If you’re getting that in your car, there is probably water pooling somewhere. Leaky doors or windows can let water in so keep an eye out for damp seats or floors.
  4. You have an oil leak. – If oil is leaking and drips on any part of your exhaust system, you’ll smell burning oil. To make things worse it can create a big, thick cloud or blue smoke if it gets bad enough.
  5. The catalytic converter is broken. – These are emissions control components that alter exhaust gasses. When they aren’t working properly, you’ll get a rotten egg smell that you’ll want to address fast.

If you’re experiencing any of these smells in your vehicle, stop by DELLA Mitsubishi. Our service department will be happy to take a look at it for you. Also, be sure to take a look at your service and parts specials, and you could get an even better deal!

The 24-Hours of LeMons– This event is for those with a sense of humor and a love for racing. Buy a $500 car with your team and prep it with safety gear and get it track ready. You’ll be going head to head with a few dozen other teams for the grand prize, $500 in nickels!
