As a driver, you know that you need to be able to think on your feet and react at a moment’s notice. Obviously, this is in the event of an accident, but we can’t forget about the weather. Granted, we’re used to harsh winters complete with snow, sleet, and ice, but what about those random summer downpours? Do you know the potential dangers that come with this weather or how to respond to them?

Stay Away from Cruise Control– We know it’s convenient to press a button and not have to worry about your speed after that, but this is extremely dangerous in heavy rain. When using cruise control, you increase your chances of hydroplaning because of your consistent speed. Hydroplaning happens when the tread on your tire can’t reach the ground fast enough, causing you to skid.

Keep Your Distance– To ensure ample stop time in the event of a quick brake or accident in front of you, stay about three car lengths away from the person in front of you.

Know Where You’re Going– Have an idea of where the low spots in the road are before taking off. Where there are low roads, there will be deep water and more of a chance of hydroplaning. In the event that you do experience hydroplaning, take your foot off the gas, do not hit the brakes and steer in the direction of the skid.

If you have any concerns about your vehicle’s ability to handle heavy rain this summer, come into DELLA Mitsubishi. We will be happy to check the condition of your tires and show you any of these best practices.

Between play dates, meetings, and pets, it’s pretty easy to have a vehicle interior that’s always in a bit of a chaotic state. However, if you’re craving a little organization in all that chaos, we’re here to help. The best part? It’s easy!

  1. Make a Car Kit– This is simple, easy and changes with the seasons. Think about what emergency gear you might need in the winter versus what you’d need in the middle of summer. Then get a nice, deep container to keep it all in. That way if there is an emergency of any sort, you have your supplies on hand.
  2. Use Clear, Easy to Grab Pouches– Mesh ones with a zipper are perfect for this. If you’re out with the kids for the day and need to tend to a quick accident, you won’t have to dig for bandages, ointments or tweezers. If you place them all in a bag where you can see it, you can act quick.
  3. Use a File Folder– So, you get pulled over and need your registration and proof of insurance, only the kids were looking for tissues the other day and your glove box is a mess- can you picture it? Try a file a folder. Keep everything vehicle related in it and alphabetized and never have that panic again!
  4. Make Your Own Tissue Dispenser– An empty coffee cup with a lid is ideal. Runny noses happen and instead of twisting around to hand tissues to the back seat, why not make sure they have their own within reach. Put it in the cup holder next to them and you’re good to go!
  5. Use a Jewelry Tray– These small compartments will grow to be life savers. If you’re always digging for chap stick, sunglasses, change, or chargers, you’ll thank the organization gods for this one!

See! No big deal and everything is a little more neat and tidy. After an organizational overhaul, you’ll be able to handle your busy schedule no problem!

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, the urge for a road trip tends to get a bit stronger. But what if you only have the weekend? That’s not long enough time to travel cross-country for your own National Lampoon style vacation. Well, why not keep it right here in good ol’ Upstate New York? Check out these seven places along scenic Route 20 where you can get the gears moving, site-see and make some memories along the way.

  1. Albany, NY- Not only is it the state capitol, it’s the only major city on the trip and it is the hub of all political and social activity for the area. If you’re into history, stop by the State Museum, if you’re interested in locally brewed hard cider try out Nine Pins Cider Works and if you need a bite to eat, you have to see the menu at DP Brasserie.
  2. Sharon Springs, NY– If you need a day of R&R this is where you want to be! A former resort town that is being reborn with tons of unique restaurants, festivals, and a luxurious spa.
  3. The TePee– This is the perfect place for a pit stop. It has plenty of cheesy decorations (bison statue included) and classic road food at The Chuckwagon. Take a moment to stretch your legs and take in views of the Mohawk River you can’t get anywhere else.
  4. Glimmerglass– Celebrating over 40 years, Glimmerglass is an opera house that’s a “can’t miss”. Nestled on the shores of Otsego Lake just north of Cooperstown, you won’t want to forget your camera on this stop.
  5. Petrified Creature Museum of Natural History– Yes, this sounds a little weird. But, who doesn’t want to play archeologist for a day and get a picture with a dinosaur? Exactly.
  6. Jewett’s Cheese House– If you love cheese, or even if you just love someone who loves cheese, this place is a must. With over 400 items to choose from, including 20-year aged cheddar, you’re bound to find something everyone likes.
  7. Cazenovia, NY– You’ve just made it to the picturesque town smack dab in the middle of New York. Take in the history through a number of events that occur throughout the year at the Lorenzo State Historic Site, take a dip in Cazenovia Lake, and travel on the Cazenovia Beverage Trail to experience home crafted wines, hard ciders, and beers.

Check back in a couple of weeks, we’ll give you seven more places to check out!
